Talking Colour/ Talking Pattern-Yitong Ren

My project’s inspiration comes from the vibrant nature. During the pattern creation process, every weekend I would visit the park to observe and collect various shapes and sizes of fallen leaves. After sorting these natural materials, I would make unique collages. Later, I carefully covered the leaf and trunk samples with sulfur paper, precisely depicting the interlaced textures of the veins and the rough patterns of the bark. I also used the delicate strokes of colored pencils to outline the concentric circles of tree rings.

In terms of color expression, I initially chose watercolor paints with strong fluidity. By tilting the paper and allowing the paint to flow freely and blend on the surface, I aimed to simulate the strong and vigorous shape of the tree trunk and the expansive outline of the branches and leaves. After the base color dried, I then combined various materials such as paint, colored pencils, and watercolors to layer and draw the vivid shape of the flowers and the lush appearance of the leaves, making the picture more layered.
